Reporters's Diary

Pleasant surprise

Residents in the Thampanoor ward were treated to a surprise by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) for two days. Overhead water tanks that had remained dry for months suddenly started overflowing and residents were taken aback by spurting taps.

Many wondered whether the KWA had risen to the expectations of the public. Inquiries, however, revealed that the situation had nothing to do with improvement of services.

The increase in boost was mainly owing to the shutting down of the main pipeline to Pazhavangady and beyond for relaying a water pipe across the Amayizhanjan canal at Thakaraparambu. The residents were assured that the situation would be back to square one once the repair works are over and the pipeline to the Fort area is recharged.

`Insulting Tricolour'

It may be true that the Tamil film `Anniyan,' released in the State recently, has turned out to be a crowd-puller. According to reports, the film has been doing well at the box-office. However, all is not well with this movie.

Its posters found all over Kerala depict the national flag in bad light, according to the Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation. The foundation says that in the posters of the film in Tamil Nadu, it is not so.

There has been a serious violation of the National Honour Act and the Flag Code, alleges Eby J. Jose, chairman of the foundation. Despite the fact that action could be initiated, on its own, in such instances, the authorities concerned have not taken up the issue with the seriousness it deserves, Mr. Eby says.

Demanding immediate removal of all the posters of the film and appropriate action against those responsible for their creation, he says he has decided to seek legal remedy on this issue.
