Excitement among the fans of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling's boy wizard, is reaching a feverish pitch as the date of publication of the latest book, July 16, draws near. At various bookstalls in the city, the number of people booking copies of `Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' is steadily on the rise. At last count, close to 300 copies of the book have been reserved at various bookshops. Although the book's cover price is Rs. 895, some bookstalls are planning surprise discount offers to those who pocket the `Half Blood Prince' on the inaugural day itself. While it is true that the Hogwarts tales are supposed to appeal to young readers, personnel at bookstalls say that there is no dearth of adult readers who cannot wait to see what Rowling has in store in the new book. One such adult reader is said to be Public Works Minister M.K. Muneer. All the excitement over the new book has brought with it rumours in various Potter fan sites about certain `deaths' in the `Half Blood Prince'. Apparently, these rumours have become so strong that Rowling in the website `jkrowling.com' has denied that she had posted anything on the web about the alleged `deaths' in her latest novel.
