Shortage of staff has been a regular phenomenon in the district since for years. The menace has been spreading to more and more Government departments and public institutions day by day. The latest victim of the curse of the district was the District Industries Centre (DIC). Many a post in the DIC has been lying vacant for years together. And, now the department is without a chief since the General Manager had been transferred. Three of the four posts of managers are also vacant in the Kasaragod DIC. That apart, the posts of two Industrial Extension Officers and about half-a-dozen ministerial staff are also lying vacant. The position is no different in the taluk industrial centre at Kanhangad. The DIC has a significant role to play in coordinating and facilitating industrial development of a district. But, shortage of hands would cripple its functioning.
