KARWAR: Shubalata Asnotikar, MLC, said here on Tuesday that the 400-bed district hospital here was facing shortage of doctors. The hospital, which is expected to have 27 doctors, had the services of only six doctors now. There were no specialists in the hospital. The only surgeon who was working in the hospital till recently retired, she said. She had requested the Health Minister to appoint doctors to the hospital immediately. She said the government college and polytechnic were facing shortage of teachers. The matter had been brought to the notice of the Higher Education Minister and also the directors of collegiate and technical education. Ms. Asnotikar alleged that development works implemented by the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank in Karwar, Ankola, Sirsi and Dandeli were unscientific and sub-standard. She had made a particular mention of the sewage treatment plant, the underground drainage system, the drinking water tank and the fruit market in Karwar in this regard, she said.
