HEARTENING SIGN: A farmer taking up ploughing operations in Adilabad following encouraging rainfall.
ADILABAD: Following a good rainfall in the last three days, farmers in the district have launched sowing operations in full scale. This year, thrust will be on cultivation of soyabean even in tribal areas. Soya-intensive mandals in the tribal belt are Indervelli, Gudihatnoor, Utnoor, Narnoor, Jainoor, Sirpur (U), Ichoda, Bazarhatnoor, Boath and Neredigonda. According to estimates of the Agriculture Department, the area under soya cultivation is going to increase by another 30,000 hectares from last year's 70,000 hectares. However, the area under cotton cultivation is going to decrease by about 30,000 hectares. Though the first 24 days of the month was dry, 125 mm of rainfall was received in the last three days. Though it was deficient considering the normal of 187 mm for the month, it was sufficient to launch agricultural operations in the district.
