Letters to the Editor
This refers to the Cabinet approval of the introduction of a bill against domestic violence. If passed, it will be an addition to the fleet of existing laws. But it is not a dearth of laws but the lack of awareness, tardy implementation and the prohibitive cost of justice that render the laws redundant. Peace obtained through laws will be only like peace prevailing at a graveyard.
The real challenge will lie in spreading awareness among women of the law. The media can play a pivotal role. Including legal education in schools and colleges will also go a long way in spreading awareness. Most important, each of us can help, reaching out to the beneficiaries around us.
