TIRUPUR: A Tirupur-based textile machinery manufacturer is going overseas. Mehala Machines India Limited will start industrial and clutch motors manufacturing plant in Ninmbo, China, this year.

Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday, its Chairman and Managing Director, C. Subramaniam said land purchase would be over by next month and in all probability production would commence by this year-end. With an investment of Rs. 5 crore, the plant will have a capacity of 30,000 motors a month.

The company has developed a new copper die cast motors instead of aluminum die cast ones, first time in Asia and it has patented the technology. The copper die cast will give high efficiency with less electricity consumption.

"Since the Chinese had not developed the copper rotor technology we want to grab the domestic market there. The leading sewing machine manufacturer SIRUBA plans to set up a plant in Ninmbo, we will supply motors to them besides export market,'' Mr. Subramaniam added. China offered subsidies and its market was big, he said.

Mehala Machines with the collaboration of Chinese pioneer in embroidery machine manufacturing, Damei, will start a joint venture company "Mehala Damei Technologies Pvt. Limited'' at Tirupur by August to produce embroidery machines.

With an investment of Rs. 10 crore the company would produce 600 embroidery machines a year. While Mehala will hold 60 per cent of the share capital, Damei the remaining 40 per cent.
