KASARAGOD: The district panchayat has given clearance for various projects for Rs.1.55crores during the current fiscal. The following are the details of the projects and outlay: Galasa project for augmenting paddy cultivation-Rs.5 lakhs; model Agricultural development project-Rs.17 lakhs; development of State Seed Farms at Kasaragod and Pullur-Rs.4 lakhs each (total Rs.8 lakhs). Self-employment scheme for women-Rs.20 lakhs; protein-rich food programme for anganwadi students-Rs.10 lakhs; AIDS control programme- Rs.5 lakhs. Books for public libraries-Rs.5 lakhs; legal literacy programme-Rs.1 lakh; District Literacy Mission programmes-Rs.1 lakh; welfare programmes of women belonging to Scheduled Castes-Rs.22 lakhs; housing scheme-Rs.22 lakhs. Welfare schemes for self-help groups-Rs.5 lakhs; educational grant for ST/ST students-Rs.4 lakhs; improving facilities at the new district hospital-Rs.30 lakhs. A meeting of the panchayat, chaired by district panchayat president E. Padmavathy, has also decided to publish a People's Protection Document this year. The meeting also urged the Government to post adequate medical staff at the new multi-speciality district hospital at Chemmattumvayal. The meeting also decided that a delegation of peoples' representatives and officials would meet the Health Minister, K.K. Ramachandran, next month.
