A drama a day from July 22

T.V. Varadharajan, actor and TV news reader.

Drama is getting set to take centre stage in the city. Literally.

United Visuals with television personality TV Varadharajen at its head is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a "drama a day" festival, from July 22-August 15. Popular stage troupes will perform plays at Narada Gana Sabha, Bharath Kalachar, Krishna Gana Sabha, Rani Seethai Hall, Vani Mahal and Mylapore Fine Arts.

Also planned as part of the 25-day drama festival is a photography exhibition on the theatre movement, a seminar on dramas and honouring of senior artistes. (Twenty-five is the magic number because Varadharajen celebrates his 25th year on stage this year.)

Popular artistes Y. Gee Mahendra, S. Ve Shekar, `Crazy' Mohan, Kathadi Ramamurthy, Bombay Gnanam, Bombay Chanakya and Kovai KRS will participate in the drama fest.

Also, troupes Kalanilayam, Railpriya, Gurukulam, Nataka Mandir, Geethanjali, Dummies, Nadakakaran, Mother Creations and Kala vauhini are getting ready to stage some of their best-loved dramas.

For instance, Kovai Padhu will take `Washingtonil Thirumanam' to Vani Mahal on August 13. Laugh-a-minute `Jurassic Baby' will be staged at Narada Gana Sabha on July 24. The host troupe United Visuals themselves have six shows lined up for the season.

`Nagaram Muzhuvadum Nalthorum Nadagam' is their tagline. For more information contact 24469292/24469393.
