Staff Reporter

Traffic on NH-7 disrupted; rail roko by CPI in Cuddapah

KURNOOL ANANTAPURCUDDAPAHTIRUPATI: The Left parties organised a road blockade here on Tuesday to protest against hike in the prices of petroleum products.

Leaders of the CPI, the CPI(M), the CPI(ML) New Democracy and Janashakti took part in the protest. The Kurnool MLA, M.A. Gafoor, took part in the rally, which started from Zilla Parishad and reached the Collectorate. The district secretary, T. Shadrak, said the Left parties had no agreement with the Congress but only with people. They would not hesitate to take the extreme step when people's feelings were hurt. He said the Congress Government resorted to hike despite the Left parties showing an alternative way. He found fault with the State Government for supporting the hike.

ANANTAPUR: Left party activists staged a rasta roko on the NH-7 here for about an hour. Similar protests were held at different places in the district. As a result, traffic on the NH was disrupted. The protest was led by the Left leaders, G. Obulakonda Reddy and C. Jaffer.

Leaders arrested

KURNOOL ANANTAPURCUDDAPAHTIRUPATI: CPI activists stopped Inter-City Express and CPI(M) functionaries stopped Dadar Express for about an hour in Cuddapah station decrying petrol and diesel price hike. The I Town police arrested the CPI district secretary, G. Obulesu, the CPI(M) district secretary, B. Narayana, and protestors of both parties. Mr. Obulesu and Mr. Narayana flayed the UPA Government for increasing petrol and diesel prices four times in a year.

Meanwhile, CPI and CPI(M) activists staged rasta roko in Jammalamadugu, Rajampet, Badvel, Yerraguntla and other towns in the district.

Traffic in disarray

KURNOOL ANANTAPURCUDDAPAHTIRUPATI: The rasta roko conducted by the Left in the town on Tuesday led to a traffic disarray on the busy Renigunta road. The Left parties held up traffic on the railway overbridge between Poornakumbham Circle and Ramanuja Circle.
