SHIMOGA: The chief scientist of the Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, E.V. Prakash Rao, said here on Monday that farmers of the Malnad region should grow medicinal and aromatic plants in addition to traditional crops. Inaugurating a training camp on the economic value of medicinal and aromatic plants organised by the institute, he said farmers should grow medicinal and aromatic crops as mixed crops. They could easily earn profits from these crops, as there is a demand for them as raw materials and as semi-finished or finished products, he added. He said the climatic conditions in the Malnad region were ideally suited for the cultivation aromatic herbs and added that his institute is ready to assist farmers who wish to cultivate these plants as mixed crops.
