KAKINADA: The president of the district unit of the Telugu Desam, Jyothula Nehru, has said that their party will give ticket to the youth in the coming municipal elections as a part of its programme to induct young blood into the organisation. Addressing the first meeting of the district Telugu Yuvata executive meeting here on Tuesday, he said unlike the Congress their party was committed to encouraging youth and utilising their talent.
`Luring by falsehood'
Lashing out at the Congress Government for allegedly luring the youth by falsehood, Mr Nehru said the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had promised one lakh jobs to the youth during his election campaign but conveniently forgot after coming to power. Moreover, he alleged, over one lakh employees had been removed by the Government on one pretext or other during last 13 months of its rule. The State party's observer and a former Minister, J Pushparaj, who was chief guest, said the credit for encouraging the youth and building the Telugu Desam into a mighty organisation went to its founder N T Ramarao. Citing his own case as example, Mr Pushparaj said he was picked up by NTR and he got elected to the Assembly when he was hardly 25 years old and made Minister five years later. Criticising the Government for its alleged failure in fulfilling its election promises on providing employment to the youth, Mr. Pushparaj said that Dr Rajasekhara Reddy promised prior to elections to fill all the existing 2.50 lakh vacancies but acted contrary. Only 2,500 people were given jobs during its first year rule. Mr. Pushparaj blamed the Chief Minister for changing the names of the schemes initiated by the TDP government. He installed Nallamilli Veerreddi as district Telugu Yuvata president and office-bearers. Chikkala Ramachandrarao, former Minister, and Nallamilli Moolareddy, former MLA, attended .
