MYSORE: Two motorcycle-borne youths trailed two rural cooperative bank employees in Ravandur in Periyapatana taluk on Tuesday and escaped with a suitcase containing Rs. 5 lakhs after throwing chilli powder on their face. The incident took place when Vijaykumar, secretary in the bank, and his associate, Nagendra, withdrew Rs. 5 lakhs from the bank in Ravandur and were on their way to Periyapatana to distribute the amount among farmers. They were followed by two youths, who, at an opportune time, steered close to the bank employees and took them by surprise by throwing chilli powder on their face. Even as Vijaykumar and Nagendra struggled to ward of the burning sensation in their eyes, the two youths snatched the suitcase and fled the scene. Periyapatana police has registered a case and are investigating.
Missing notes case
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team, which is investigating the case pertaining to the theft of Rs. 50 lakhs from the Reserve Bank of India note printing unit here, will subject three employees of the bank to narco-analysis tests. The RBI Employees' Union President and former MLA, A. Ramdas, said Hemachandra, Anandu and Srinivas, who were suspended by the management in connection with the missing notes case, were taken to Bangalore on Tuesday and they underwent medical examination necessary before conducting the narco-analysis. "We have given consent to the tests and sought permission from the appropriate authorities as the National Human Rights Commission is opposed to performing narco-analysis on detainees to elicit information," Mr. Ramdas said. The CBI is investigating the disappearance of Rs. 50 lakhs from the RBI's Mysore unit in June last year when the cash was being transported to Thiruvananthapuram. The case took a curious turn when three notes of Rs. 500 denomination from the missing series surfaced from an ATM of a nationalised bank, raising suspicion that the stolen money is in circulation. The CBI team comprising Inspector Darwin, Narendra and Rajan, who arrived here from Cochin on Monday, took the three employees to Bangalore.
Official stabbed
Two government officials allegedly attacked each other at Helen Keller Government Blind School here resulting in one of them being stabbing. The police said that the former warden of the school, Mandanna, stabbed a Second-Division Assistant, Dhananjaya Krishna Shetty, after an altercation broke out between them over the issue of missing blankets. The police said Mandanna had come to the school to hand over charge to Mr. Shetty as he has been transferred to Madikeri. Even as Mr. Shetty took charge from Mandanna, he sought an explanation over some missing blankets, which resulted in a heated argument. An incensed Mandanna, who found a knife, stabbed Mr. Shetty causing injuries on the face and neck, the police said. The Mandi Mohalla police have arrested Mandanna and have registered a case.
