Five persons arrested in double murder case

Correspondent

MAHABUBNAGAR: The Mahabubnagar police arrested five persons in connection with the double murders that took place on June 13 in the Koilkonda area on Monday. The accused -- Yellappa alias Ravi, Ramulu, Gopal, Anjaneyulu and Mohan -- were produced in the court on Tuesday.

According to the Mahabubnagar DSP, Anjaneyulu, the sub-inspector of Koilkonda police station received information on June 13 about the murder of Jerupala Venkataiah, a teacher at Sherivenkatapur village, and rushed to the spot. He recorded the statement of the victim's mother, Manikyamma there.

Meanwhile, the SI also came to know that another murder took place, in which one Boyini Rajgopal was killed. Manikyamma alleged that both the murders were committed by Yellappa alias Ravi and his brothers Ramulu, Gopal, Mohan and Anjaneylu of Modipur village. The DSP said that during the course of investigation, it was revealed that the five accused and the victim were relatives. The accused are sympathisers of the TDP, while Rajgopal and his friend Venkataiah were Congress loyalists and enjoyed power in the village. The accused, envious of the clout enjoyed by the victims, had a fight with them at the time of immersion of Lord Ganesha's idols last year. To establish their supremacy in the village, the accused conspired and killed the two friends as a permanent solution. The police also recovered the weapons used in the murders.
