IT WAS a rewarding moment for S.M. Vignesh Babu, son of S.A. Manoharan, a petty shopkeeper. He had scored 1,147 out of 1,200 marks in the Plus Two examination. He was given the Om Sakthi Award, comprising a cash award of Rs.5,000 and a memento for his achievement, which is no mean thing. Vignesh Babu, a student of Sourashtra Boys Higher Secondary School in the city, received the prize instituted by the Sakthi Foundation (Parents Memorial Trust) at a function held on the school premises. The function was presided over by the secretary and correspondent of the school, A.K. Ramamoorthy. K.K. Sakthi Manian, founder of the foundation, gave away the cheque for Rs.5,000 to Vignesh Babu and Amrutha Arun Senthil Kumar, director, presented him with the memento. The headmaster, T.S. Soundarajan, proposed a vote of thanks on the occasion.
