A tribute to legends

FOR ACE singer Hitesh Mehta from the city, June 26 was a special day. After successful performances in Bangalore, Mangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore and Erode, Mehta moved to Ghatkopar in Mumbai on that day to present his latest collection "Musical Tribute to Legends."

A special programme conceptualised and designed on the legendary contributions of the late Raj Kapoor and Guru Dutt to Indian cinema, the presentation had a flavour of a concert, with more than 20 musicians playing live on stage. The songs were enriched with facts and events related to the great legends, as narratives in between.

The tribute to Raj Kapoor and Guru Dutt is part of a campaign envisaged by Hitesh Mehta. "People want to enjoy old songs in their original flavour. Remixes have done a great harm because people neither get to hear the original rhythm nor get to see the actual picturisation," says Mehta, making his own efforts to retain the original class, touch and flavour of old Hindi film hits.
