CHENNAI: Three fires were reported in the city on Tuesday, in which 40 huts, including seven shelters in Kargil Nagar in Sathangadu near Manali, were gutted. According to the Fire and Rescue Service, the first blaze was reported from Kargil Nagar around 11.50 a.m. Five fire tenders were pressed into service to put it out. The second one took place around 4.50 p.m. at Kakkanji Nagar in Villivakkam in which 30 huts were destroyed. Eight fire tenders with seven Metrowater tankers brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. The third fire call was received around 5.30 p.m. in Dommikkuppam, where two huts were destroyed. The fire was put out in five minutes, as a couple of tenders were patrolling in the area. In Kakkanji Nagar, Villivakkam and Dommikkuppam in Mylapore, the fire was caused due to a spark from an unattended oven, added the Fire and Rescue Services authorities.
