`Outcome budget' to be unveiled in July

NEW DELHI:
For the first time ever, the Centre proposes to unveil an "outcome budget" next month to assess the effectiveness of the funds spent on various heads under different Ministries.
"In the first week of July, we will come out with an outcome budget," Finance Minister P. Chidambaram told newspersons on Tuesday after his presentation at the National Development Council (NDC) meeting.
The "outcome budget," he said, would attempt to specify the desired outcomes in quantitative terms with a timeframe. The key to achieving the outcomes was to ensure efficient service delivery, transparency and accountability. It would also help in allocating resources based on the progress made in delivery.
