Power shutdown

The following areas will not have power supply between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on June 1 owing to a shutdown for maintenance work at Annur sub-station:

Annur, Kuppapalayam, Odderpalayam, Kembanaickenpalayam, Kariyampalayam, Paduvampalli, Pongalur, Ganesapuram and Pasur.

Demonstration

Nearly 400 bank employees, including 50 women, and officers staged a demonstration in front of Union Bank of India to protest against merger and privatisation of banks.

The protest under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions was also to oppose 74 per cent foreign direct investment in private sector banks and to demand effective recovery of bad debts.

Campaign

National Environment Awareness Campaign on "Solid Waste Management" will be held on June 29 by the Department of Civil Engineering and Centre for Water and Environmental Studies of Kumaraguru College of Technology.

It is sponsored by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and the C.P. Ramaswamy Aiyar Foundation in Chennai is the regional resource agency.
