High Court upholds AICTE decision

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The High Court has on Tuesday upheld the decision of the All-Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to permit new engineering colleges in the State. A Division Bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice G. Chandraiah, was dealing with writ petitions filed in this regard. The existing engineering colleges challenged a decision of the AICTE to issue letters of intent (LOI) for 17 new colleges. They relied upon the policy decision of the State Government wherein the Government declared that there was no need for new colleges. The new colleges filed the writ challenging the stand of the State Government.
