Traffic thrown out of gear at RTC crossroads; agitation to continue till Centre withdraws the hike

ALL IN THE GAME: A marriage party that got stuck in the traffic jam following the rasta roko staged by activists of the CPI(M) in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: Traffic was thrown out of gear on the roads and by-lanes connected to the RTC crossroads, when some 600 activists of the Left parties blocked the road, demanding rollback of petrol and diesel prices here on Tuesday.

The protest demonstration, organised by the Communist Party of India and the CPI-Marxist, held up the vehicular flow on all sides at the busy junction for more than 30 minutes.

Addressing the demonstrators, CPI(M) State committee secretary, B.V. Raghavulu, said the Central Government hiked the prices of petrol and diesel though there were several other alternatives to meet the challenge of burgeoning oil prices in the international market. He said the agitation would be continued till the Centre rollback the price hike.

The CPI State committee assistant secretary, K. Narayana, ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party for holding the Left parties indirectly responsible for the price hike. The demonstration was called off after 40 minutes. No arrests were made.
