KOCHI: Milan Jaleel and Kireedom Unni were elected president and secretary respectively of the Kerala Film Producers' Association in a tightly contested election held here on Wednesday. Mr. Jaleel, who had been the general secretary of the association earlier, defeated Jubilee Joy by scoring 58 out of 108 votes polled. Mr. Joy got 47 votes. Mr. Unni defeated Siyad Kokker with a margin of four votes. The other office-bearers include Lal, of Lal Creations, and Shogun Raju (vice presidents) and Sabu Cheriyan (treasurer). A 14-member executive committee presented by the panel led by Mr. Jaleel was also elected. Earlier in the day, the association honoured seven veteran Malayalam film producers at a function held in connection with the meeting. The honoured producers are R.S. Prabhu of Rajesh Pictures, K.S.R. Moorthy of Chitranjali, E.K. Thyagarajan of Sree Murukalaya, M. Mani of Aroma, V.C. George of New Saga Films, A. Raghunath of Sanjay Productions and Raju Mathew of Century Films. Senior film producer T.E. Vasudevan presented them with mementos. Meanwhile, Thomas Koduveli, a producer, alleged that the association has failed to initiate action against a leading film director who caused loss to him due to negligence. The director of his film, Amrutam, failed to ensure the audio quality of the prints. Of the total 34 theatres where the film was screened, 24 had given written complaints regarding the audio quality.
