KOZHIKODE: Renditions of mappilapattu, discussions on the works of Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar and a meeting in memory of writer K.K. Mohammed Abdul Kareem were organised as part of the release of the book `Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar, Sampoorna Krithikal,' a compilation of the works of Moyinkutty Vaidyar. The function organised at the Muslim Service Society auditorium here on Wednesday focussed on the nuances of mappila art forms and literature. Moosa Eranholi; K.V. Abootty; Aziz Tayineri; I.P. Siddique; V.M. Kutty; Vilayil Fasina and K.S. Rehana participated in the mappilapattu mela. The book has been published by the Kondotty-based Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Smaraka Samithi under the aegis of the Culture Department, Government of Kerala. The work is a compilation of the mappilapattu penned by Moyinkutty Vaidyar. It comprises two volumes. The songs have been compiled by historians K.K. Mohammed Kareem and K. Abubacker. IUML leader Panakkad Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal; K.P. Ramanunni, writer; V. Madhusoodhanan Nair, poet; Abdussamad Samdani, MP, and K.N.A. Khader, MLA, participated in the programme. The Pulikkotil Hyder Smaraka puraskaram was presented to O.M. Karuvarakkundu for his contribution in popularising mappilapattu.
