Dheevara sabha opposes move on mineral sand-mining

ALAPPUZHA: The Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha State president V. Dinakaran has demanded that the State Government withdraw the permission given to mine mineral sand from Arattupuzha, Thrikkunnappuzha and Purakkad panchayats in the district.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr Dinakaran warned of strong resistance from the people of the area if the Government went ahead with the move to mine mineral sand.

Mr. Dinakaran said political parties in the State were showing double standards while expressing their opinion on the issue of mineral sand mining.

While the Alappuzha district units of all political parties strongly protest against moves to mine mineral sand , the State leaderships were not completely against mining, observed Mr Dinakaran.

Alappuzha MP K.S. Manoj in a statement here on Wednesday demanded that the order be withdrawn immediately. Mr Manoj said a convention of various organisations opposing mining would be held at the Alappuzha district panchayat hall on July 6 at 11 a.m.

The CPI (M) Alappuzha district secretary G. Sudhakaran in another statement said the CPI (M) would join with all likeminded organisations to oppose mineral sand-mining.
