Commendable

This refers to the editorial, `Let the admissions begin' (June 29). The suggestion for a "countrywide common skills and aptitude test that can become the basis for admission to any college in the country" is commendable.

It will eliminate the multiplicity of entrance tests now in vogue, easing the agony suffered by students every year.

R.M. Manoharan,
Michigan, U.S.

The Madras High Court has made it clear that a common entrance test is mandatory by citing the relevant regulations and the apex court's decisions. The Tamil Nadu Government should implement the Court order immediately.

T. Karthikeyan,
Madurai, T.N.
