WARANGAL: The district police arrested six members of an inter-state gang allegedly dealing with illegal arms on Wednesday. The gang was said to be selling arms to extremist groups in the district.

The arrested were - L. Addressing a press conference here, Superintendent of Police, M.S. Ravindra said two pistols, ammunition and four magazines were recovered from the gang. The police had evidence that the gang had supplied two sten guns, seven 9 mm pistols and seven 7.64 pistols to Adivasi Liberation Tigers (ALT), one of the naxal outfits in Warangal district. They were trying to sell another round of arms for which the naxal group had already paid Rs. 6.5 lakhs for the third and latest deal.

    Network broken

During interrogation, the Bishwajeeth Kumar revealed that weapons were being manufactured at Wardhe of Munger district in Bihar. The recent arrest of Prachanda, a senior cadre of ALT had helped police break the arms network of the group. The SP said soon they would also break the similar network of Maoists in the district.

Mr. Ravindra said the naxal parties, which had been claiming to be waging an armed struggle for the people, had turned to be extortion gangs.
