NEW DELHI: Responding to fresh tariff-related complaints from subscribers, the Telecom Regulatory of Authority of India on Wednesday directed companies to henceforth inform customers in writing, within a week of activation of service, complete details of tariff plans. They should also intimate, in writing, any further changes in the tariff packages. The directive was issued after consumers pointed out that while soliciting new connections franchisees of phone service providers promised certain tariffs for calls and free caller line identification and roaming. On receiving the bill, however, they found that charges were levied for these services. The directive seeks to plug any loopholes in an earlier directive issued on May 2 in which phone companies were told to ensure that tariff brochures at retail outlets contained details of tariff plans as well as the financial implications for various usage slabs. However, customers told TRAI that agents and companies still provided incomplete tariff details or hid some of them while soliciting new connections.
