Driving course for unemployed graduates

G. Ravikiran

Training to be imparted in communication skills too

VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna District Lorry Owners' Association has come out with a novel idea to create employment opportunities for unemployed graduates. It has decided to offer a residential certificate course in LMV driving for those having a degree qualification.

The course will be offered at the well-equipped Model Driving Training Institute and Research Centre located at Ampapuram in Bapulapadu mandal. The candidates who have enrolled themselves will have to stay on the institute premises and undergo a comprehensive training in driving skills, behaviour, communication skills and personality development.

The course will be offered for eight to nine months and is aimed at fetching good driver job for unemployed graduates in corporate companies.

Good salary

The managing directors and top officials in multi-national companies own sophisticated and costly cars. They need drivers who are adept at driving and also have good personality and communication skills. Presently, they are employing drivers with experience ranging from four to six years. These drivers are being paid in the range of Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 6,000.

The president of the association, Yelamanchili Veera Eeswara Rao, says that corporate companies want drivers with good qualification and behaviour. It is not easy to find drivers with such qualifications in the open market. If unemployed graduates take a proper course and gain necessary expertise, there are a number of opportunities.

Mr. Rao says that corporate companies will pay Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000 for drivers attached to managing directors and top officials. These drivers will be required to handle laptops and do some works for top officials. Those with raw training in the field hardly meet these expectations. Training in computers is also being imparted to the candidates taking the residential course at the institute. They will also be given training in English and Hindi language skills.

Workshop

Mr. Rao says that vehicles with dual control systems and simulators will be used to train prospective car drivers. "We will speak to corporate companies and organise campus interviews for our candidates. To ensure quality of the course, we will take only those having qualification higher than degree," he says.

The association will organise a one-day workshop soon for unemployed graduates who are interested in taking driving as a profession. It is also planning to enter a tie-up with taxi drivers associations to offer project works.
