CHENNAI:
A Special Judge here on Wednesday ordered summons to the former PWD Minister, S. Kannappan, to appear before the court on July 29 in connection with the charge sheet filed against him for allegedly possessing wealth disproportionate to known sources of his income.
Twenty persons have been cited as accused in the charge sheet, filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), under Section 13 (2) and 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 109 (punishment of abetment if the act abetted is committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) of the Indian Penal Code.
Mr. Kannappan, founder, Makkal Tamil Desam, who was the PWD Minister in the AIADMK Government, was charged with possessing wealth to the tune of Rs.11.10 crores. Taking the charge sheet on file, judge T. Mathivanan ordered issue of summons to the accused.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Vellore, has taken on file the charge sheet against the former DMK MLA, R. Gandhi, for allegedly possessing wealth to the tune of Rs.3.92 crores which, the DVAC said, was disproportionate to known sources of income.
The court ordered issue of summons for his appearance on August 2, a DVAC official said.
