TDP leaders fast before MRO office

Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH: The Telugu Desam Party State secretary, S.V. Satish Kumar Reddy, and district spokesman, T. Ramgopal Reddy, and about 100 party activists picketed the Simhadripuram MRO office on Wednesday, and then staged a hunger strike for about four hours alleging lack of response from the OSD of Pulivendula, R. Hariprakash, in taking their representation.

They gave up the protest at 4 p.m. when the OSD came to the MRO office and received their representation on local problems. The protesters were enraged at the non-availability of the OSD or the Simhadripuram MRO and announced the fast.

The TDP leaders demanded release of 4 tmc of water to Pulivendula branch canal, soft loans to save citrus plantations, crop insurance for dried-up horticultural plantations and mitigation of drinking water scarcity in Simhadripuram. These assurances were given by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, during his visit to Simhadripuram, but no action was taken to fulfil them, they alleged.
