CUDDAPAH: Forest produce procurement centres were set up in Cuddapah district for procuring non-timber forest produce and its resale was arranged through village samakhyas to enable income generation among self-help groups, the Project Director of DRDA and Indira Kranthi Patham, Smita Sabharwal, said on Wednesday. Under Indira Kranthi Patham, Rs. 3 lakhs was allotted to two village samakhyas in each mandal for purchase of groundnut and sunflower seed in kharif season, Ms. Sabharwal told a press conference here. The welfare of physically challenged persons was taken up in Galiveedu, Chakrayapet and Sambepalle mandals and health and nutrition promotion activities in Brahmamgari Matham and B. Kodur mandals, she said.
Allocation of funds
The Government sanctioned Social Investment Fund of Rs. 18.66 crores for undertaking developmental activities through self-help groups, she said. It included Rs. 14.37 crores for income-generation activities, Rs. 1.86 crores for Food Assurance Scheme, Rs. 1.36 crores for welfare of physically challenged, Rs. 26 lakhs for health schemes and Rs. 46 lakhs for eradicating gender discrimination, she explained. Rural youth were trained in hotel management and computer technology with the cooperation of Reddy Labs and several trainees gained employment, the Project Director stated. Building construction workers were being trained at Pulivendula and such training would be organised in Cuddapah soon. Women of 900 village samakhyas were being imparted training in the district, she said. The final phase of training for 90 village samakhya members would be held from July 4 to 12. The Additional Project Director of IPK and DRDA, B. Anil Kumar Reddy and District Programme Manager (Communications), Noor Ahmed, also took part.
