Former judge dead

KOCHI:
The former judge of the Kerala High Court and freedom fighter P. Janaki Amma died here after prolonged illness on Wednesday morning. She was 85 . A spinster, she is the second woman to become a High Court judge in the country.
Janaki Amma had participated in the freedom struggle from 1940 to 1944. She joined the Cochin Praja Mandalam after completing studies and later joined the Indian National Congress. She was the member of the erstwhile Ernakulam municipality from 1949 to 1953 and was the chairperson from 1953 to 1956. She left active politics after joining the judicial service.
