BIDAR: A pall of gloom has descended over Lingadahalli (K) village in Aurad taluk. A tragedy that struck a few families in this village of 300 people has left the residents in a state of shock. A road accident that claimed 14 lives on Monday has wiped out four families and left 17 children orphaned. All the adults in the families of Peera Reddy, Maruthi Reddy, Devdas Gundappa and Dashrath have died and the families of Shankar Reddy and Amrut have lost one of their breadwinners. Peera Reddy, his wife, Ramavva, and son Seenya died in the accident, leaving behind the younger son, Anju Reddy (12). Maruthi Reddy and his wife Lalitamma died leaving behind Gopal (17) and Mahipal (14). Devdas Gundappa and his wife Kantamma are survived by six children. Devdas's son-in-law, Amrut, who was driving the jeep, and his son Robert died, leaving behind Rahul and Ravi. These landless labourers who had migrated to Hyderabad five years ago, were going to Badepada Dargah in Nizamabad district. They were taking two goats to be sacrificed as part of the Kanduri tradition. The goats survived the accident. The jeep in which they were travelling collided with a lorry and 14 of the 16 persons in the jeep died on the spot near Hanadurga in Sangareddy district. The two other travellers, who were injured, have been admitted to the Sangareddy district hospital. Village elders organised a mass cremation on Monday.
