Water supply scheme inaugurated

Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR: The Bijapur MP, Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal, on Wednesday stressed the need to make water conservation a mass movement. Participating in a programme held to mark the dedication of the water supply scheme at Baratagi Tanda near here, he said Bijapur district is in a rain shadow region and it is everyone's responsibility to save water.

Referring to various irrigation and drinking water projects being implemented in the district, he said that once these schemes are completed, the water problem in many places will be solved.

Dedicating the 50,000-litre overhead tank, constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.38 lakhs, the Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Mohsin, lauded the efforts of World Vision India, a non-governmental organisation, for realising the scheme by bearing a major portion of the cost.

He promised that the district administration will support NGOs in community service projects.

The Project Manager of the organisation, Godfred Victor Singh, said his organisation contributed Rs. 2.5 lakhs while State Government gave Rs. 1.5 lakh.

The remaining Rs. 38,000 was mobilised by the villagers.
