KRISHNAGIRI: To conserve and augment the ground water level the district administration has sanctioned Rs. 11.5 crores under the Drought Prone Area Programme (DPAP) and integrated waste land development programme (IWDP) schemes for Krishnagiri districts, said the Collector, Mangat Ram Sharma, here on Wednesday. Of the total amount Rs. 3.81 crores has been sanctioned under DPAP schemes for construction of 41watersheds in the district. Similarly Rs. 4.80 crores has been allotted under the IWDP schemes for construction of 16 watersheds of 500 hectares each in eight unions in the district.
Watersheds to be built
In addition an outlay of Rs. 3 crores has been allotted under IWDP scheme for construction of ten watersheds in Krishnagiri union over a period of five years. As part of the scheme percolation ponds, farm ponds, old lakes, cattle ponds, check dams and agro forest will be created in the watershed area. Maintenance of percolation ponds, farm ponds and old lakes would also be undertaken under the scheme, Mr. Sharma said.
