KAKINADA: A group of people belonging to the Kovvur village of Kakinada rural mandal, majority of them women, staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday, demanding restoration of house sites assigned to them, freeing them from the occupation of the landlords. Narapareddi Achyuthamba, Kovvur Mahila Mandal president, Allampalli Srinivasarao MPTC member, Yarlagadda Srinivasarao, District APCLC member have led the dharna programme. In a memorandum, they represented the Collector how 149 poor people were issued house site pattas in survey no: 95 in Kovvur Village during 1999, but the landlords are still enjoying the land without handing over to the beneficiaries. When the beneficiaries constructed thatched houses, they were attacked and forcibly removed from the houses. They demanded the Collector to restore the sites to them, besides arranging payment of compensation at Rs. 10,000 each of the affected families. They also wanted construction of pucca houses to them under Government's scheme.
