Novel protest by Telugu Yuvatha

Memoranda submitted in temple, mosque and church; Gods urged to `save' the common man

RAJAHMUNDRYKAKINADAVIZIANAGARAM: The Telugu Yuvatha, a frontal organisation of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), held a novel protest on Wednesday against the price hike of petrol and diesel.

The youth handed over memorandums to the heads of three religions in temple, mosque and church, respectively.

Through the memorandums, the youth prayed to the God to give peace of mind to both Central and State Governments in ruling the country and the State.

They also conveyed it to all the three Gods that they can only save the common man from the harassment of the Congress Government.

Cycle rally

The youth, led by Kuruganti Satish, city unit president of Telugu Yuvatha and the TDP district secretary, Y. Venugopala Rayudu, handed over memorandums to Chowdeswara Sarma, the chief priest of Sri Uma Markandeya Swamy temple, Abdul Hafeezkhan Razwi of Big Mosque, G. Satish Babu, pastor of Saint Paul's Church of Jampet.

RAJAHMUNDRYKAKINADAVIZIANAGARAM: The city unit of the Telugu Desam took out a cycle rally in the main streets of Jagannadhapuram besides cinema road and the main road here on Wednesday protesting against the action of the Central Government in hiking the prices of petrol and diesel.

Vanamadi Venkateswerarao, former MLA, Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, former district TDP president, Sunkara Tirumala Kumar, city unit president, and SVS Appalaraju, former chairman of the District Library Authority, took part in the rally.

They raised slogans demanding immediate rollback of the price hike, if necessary by withdrawing the sales tax imposed by the State Government.

Addressing the demonstrators at the conclusion of the rally, China Rajappa, the member of the party's three-member committee, said the UPA Government had increased the petroleum products' prices four times during the last 13 months, contrary to election promise.

Describing the present exercise on ration cards as election gimmick, Mr. Rajappa said that charging Rs.40 towards card expenses from card holders, especially white card holders, was nothing but causing additional burden to poor people.

TDP holds rally

RAJAHMUNDRYKAKINADAVIZIANAGARAM: The TDP on Wednesday took out a rally from Fort to the Mandal Revenue Office in protest against the hike of fuel prices, spiralling prices of essential commodities and also against unfulfilled promises made before the elections by the Congress.

The TDP Polit Bureau member, P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, led the rally. The party president, S.V.Ch. Appala Naidu, the MLA, R.P. Banjdo and others participated in the rally.

Speaking at the MRO office, Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju said that the Government was not making any efforts to address the problems of people and also to fulfil the promises made before elections, which include loans to DWCRA groups, old age pensions at doorstep etc.

On fuel prices, he said the UPA Government had affected price increase four times in the last one year. Later, a memorandum was submitted to the MRO, K.R.D. Prasad.
