ELURU: The lead bank in West Godavari district seems to be worried over the increasing absenteeism among members of the Joint Mandal Level Bankers Committee (JMLBC) at its periodical meetings. The issue figured prominently on the agenda of the JMLBC meeting held at the Collectorate here on Wednesday. Participation by the representatives from the banks and the district administration at the meetings is essential to sort out the problems that crop up in the process of implementing various Government-sponsored schemes and annual credit plan. "Much is desired both from bankers and Government officials in terms of their attendance,'' the agenda note observed. The issue of absenteeism by the committee members was brought to the notice of their respective departmental higher-ups, but there was no improvement on this score, it added. The presence of the Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs), in their capacity as the mandal level coordinators of all development programmes, at the meetings was crucial. Yet they were conspicuous by their absence at most of the meetings, it said. The note pointed out that the participation of Mandal Revenue Officers (MROs), who help in recovery of loans, was also dismal. Meanwhile, the meeting resolved to lend financial assistance to cocoa for the first time. The crop is raised in the district as an inter-crop in coconut and oil palm. It recommended the banks to set apart a sum of Rs 16.5 crores to finance the crop for two years at the rate of Rs 8.25 crore per year.
Rainwater harvesting
The meeting also resolved to finance 400 rainwater harvesting structures in the current financial year. The Collector, Lav Agarval, appealed to the banks and the Government agencies to complete financing and implementation of all the Government-sponsored schemes sanctioned for the district in the current financial year by December itself and utilise rest of the period in the year for organising skill upgradation programmes for the beneficiaries in their respective schemes.
