CHANDIGARH: Thanks to the onset of the monsoon, the power situation in Haryana has improved considerably and people have been saved from unscheduled power-cuts. While claiming this here on Wednesday, an official spokesman of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam said the rural areas of the State were supplied power for 17 to 21 hours a day and in many areas three-phase power was given for eight hours and in some areas for 13 to 14 hours. "The urban areas and the industrial sector are given power for 23 to 24 hours." The maximum amount of power -- 3,782 MW -- was supplied on June 9 which came down to 3,483 MW on Tuesday. The seventh and eighth units of 250 MW each and fourth unit of 110 MW of the Panipat Thermal Power Plant have resumed generation from Wednesday. These three units were closed due to a technical fault, he added. He announced that the Nigam would check the unauthorised load of electricity of the domestic, non-domestic and tubewell consumers after every six months to ensure that they did not increase the load consumption clandestinely. Those who are caught during this checking would be fined. Meanwhile, the Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) for disclosing the electricity load would expire on Thursday (June 30).
