Court admits petitions on quota for Muslims

Legal Correspondent

Petitioners say it is unconstitutional

HYDERABAD: Two writ petitions challenging the ordinance issued by the State Government giving 5 per cent reservation for the Muslim community in the fields of education and employment have been admitted by the division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday and referred to larger Bench.

The Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Bilal, Nazki and G. Chandriah was dealing with separate writ petitions filed by B. Archana Reddy and others.

The petitioners contended that such reservation was unconstitutional and the Andhra Pradesh Commission for Backward classes had failed to discharge its duties properly and the State Government ought not to have accepted such a report.
