UDUPI: The Vice-Chancellor of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), H.S. Ballal, said on Wednesday that it is only when organisations join hands with the Government progress can be achieved in the education sector. He was speaking after giving donations amounting to Rs. 10.88 lakhs to religious, educational and social service organisations here. The donations were given on behalf of Sri Janardhan and Mahakali temples. Prof. Ballal said progress in the educational sector cannot not be left to the Government alone. Education is essential for the progress of the nation. Donations given by temples will help students studying in rural areas, he added. The managing trustee of the temples, N.B. Annaji Ballal, said Rs. 10.88 lakhs is being given to 18 educational institutions and 78 religious organisations. Ever since the temple began giving donations, Rs. 1.15 crores has been given to 745 religious organisations, 293 educational organisations, and 287 social service and cultural organisations. The two temples have planned to give Rs. 20 lakhs next year, he added. The Deputy Commissioner, T. Sham Bhatt, was present.
