MANGALORE: N. Yogish Bhat, Mangalore MLA, who has held discussions with Alex K.Jerginsen, executive representative of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in India, on the Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environmental Management Project (KUDCEMP) funded by it, has given some suggestions for its effective implementation. In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Mr. Bhat said work is on in the city on an 800-km pipeline for drinking water supply and a 400-km underground drainage. He urged the authorities to explore possibilities of reducing the problems caused to the people owing to digging of roads. He appealed to the authorities to take a decision on the proposal to construct a vented dam at a cost of Rs. 20 crores to augment water supply to the city. Noting that the proposal has been dropped from the drinking water scheme under the project, he questioned the need for laying a pipeline without taking steps for water supply from a reliable source. Mr. Bhat stressed the need to set up a committee comprising members of the city corporation, MP, MLAs, and others for coordination between the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) and the city corporation which is implementing the project. Mr. Bhat demanded that project details be put on the website of the corporation to ensure transparency in its implementation.
