KARIMNAGAR: The Karimnagar Two Town sub-inspector, R. Prakash, along with the assistant sub-inspector, Balaiah, has been placed under suspension, while a charge memo has been served against the head constable of the station, Shekhar. They have been charged with dereliction of duty for not having registered a case against the police constable of Adilabad district and ill treatment of the complainant at the police station.
The suspension orders were issued on Tuesday late night by the Karimnagar range deputy inspector general (DIG), A.R. Anuradha, after the inquiry report was submitted by the Additional Superintendent of Police (administration), Sudarshan Reddy, who had probed into the allegations against the police.
Constable's alleged threat
It may recalled that the Adilabad district Kautala police station constable, Murali, had allegedly threatened a local mason demanding ransom of Rs. 5 lakhs in the name of naxalites. The locals along with Two Town police trapped the accused by luring him with part of the demanded amount. After inquiry when it was found that he was police constable, there was a compromise between the two parties and the constable was released. The complainant again demanded that the police register a case against the constable. Accordingly, the police were registering the case, but the complainant reportedly created nuisance in the station making phone calls from his cell phone. Following allegations that the police had ill-treated the complainant, higher authorities had ordered an inquiry and arrested the Adilabad district constable and suspended him.
