GIANT WAVES: The sea water entered the residential area at Rajakkamangalam Thurai in Kanyakumari District on Wednesday. BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT
NAGERCOIL: There was panic for a while in the temporary shelters at Rajakkamangalam Thuri near here on Wednesday as seawater entered some of them. According to official sources, giant waves hit some of the coastal areas of the district due to rough weather. Consequently, fishermen living in temporary shelters were moved to safer places. One boat was also damaged in Colachel. Collector Sunil Paliwal said that the sea is normally rough during the month of June and hence there was no need for panic at this juncture. He said all precautionary arrangements had been made in the coastal areas to instil confidence among fishermen. But field officials said they could understand the fears of the fisher folk considering the psychological impact of the tsunami.
