AIADMK move an attempt to distract people: Vasan

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, G.K. Vasan, has described the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's decision to hold protests against the hike in fuel prices on July 2 as an attempt to "divert the people's attention" from the inaugural function of the Sethusamudram project on that day. The AIADMK plans to hold demonstrations in front of Central Government offices.

In a statement here on Wednesday, Mr. Vasan said that if the Chief Minister was really interested in the welfare of people, the State should have reduced the sales tax on petroleum products, which was as high as 27 per cent. The people of the State would not forgive the Chief Minister for trying to organise agitations on the function date, the statement said.
