Geriatric camp

CHENNAI: A free geriatric camp will be held from Friday for a month at Andhra Mahila Sabha. The camp will be jointly conducted by Durgabai Deshmukh General Hospital, Ashvattha Geriatric Block and Eye Clinic. Geriatrician V.S. Natarajan will participate.

Training programme

ABK AOTS DOSOKAI, Tamil Nadu Centre, will hold a training programme on `visual factory' on July 16 at their centre on Nelson Manickam Road. For details contact: 23740318/23743575/30903332.

Minister visits slum

Following the fire in Gandhi Nagar slum in Purasai assembly constituency, Housing Minister Anita R. Radhakrishnan, Slum Clearance Board chairman, N. Balaganga and other officials visited the slum and promised support for the affected.

Installation fete

The following proposals were taken up by Lions Club of Central Madras, which celebrated its 35 th installation function on Monday: donate money for setting up of tele-ophthalmology facility by Sankara Nethralaya; create a corpus fund of Rs. 4 lakhs; build toilet for diabetic patients; conduct cataract screening camps and diabetic retinopathy camps; screen schoolchildren and distribute spectacles and conduct blood donation camps.

Mobile clinic

The Tamil Nadu Veteerinary and Animal Sciences University will inaugurate a mobile clinic at Maduravoyal and a free anti-rabies vaccination campaign for dogs on Thursday.

The clinic will function from Maduravoyal municipality from Monday to Friday.

Herbal plants

A day-long workshop on herbal plants will be held at Guindy on Saturday.

The focus will be on marketing and manufacture of herbal oils, medicines and supplemental food. For details contact: Prema Desikan over phone: 94440-44068.

Thiruvasagam CD launch

The launch function of Ilayaraja's symphonic oratorio on Thiruvasagam will be held at Music Academy on Thursday (6 p.m).

The Union Information and Broadcasting Minister S. Jaipal Reddy will hand over the first copy of the work to classical musician Balamuralikrishna.

Woman set ablaze

A 24-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband at Tambaram on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the couple — Rajendran and Lathika — used to have frequent quarrels. Police said that Rajendran, who was working in Bangalore, would come home once or twice a month here. In the wee hours of Wednesday, he poured kerosene on his wife when she was sleeping and set her on fire.
