Suspension of syndicate members demanded

College management writes to Governor

KOCHI: The St. Albert's College management has written a letter to the Governor seeking appropriate action against two syndicate members who visited the campus to probe reports that the college Principal had denied permission for conducting a centralised valuation camp on the campus.

In the letter sent to the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University, the management has demanded that the syndicate members be suspended from their posts for "misusing their position."

The manager of the college, Clement Valluvassery, said in the letter that the syndicate members V. Sasidharan and C.S. Menon visited the institution on June 13 without giving any prior communication to the Principal. They were deputed only for the purpose of making an inquiry into the issue of shifting of the postgraduate centralised valuation camp, he said.

Fr. Valluvassery said the public statements and the report prepared by the syndicate members had precipitated the issue and accelerated the dissidence of teachers belonging to All Kerala Private College Teachers Association.

Parents back changes

Meanwhile, a meeting of parents held at the college on Wednesday decided to support the changes made in the college timings. A press release issued by the Principal said the parents would reach the campus in the morning to ensure that students attended classes regularly.

The agitation organised by the AKPCTA against the suspension of faculty member Sebastian K. Antony in connection with the issue of change of college hours entered the tenth day. Teachers from colleges in Alappuzha participated in the dharna held in front of the college.
