TIRUCHI: Magisterial powers should be vested with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) to facilitate the prompt execution of its directives, the state convenor of the People's Forum for Human Rights (PFHR), S. Thenpandian, said here on Monday. Addressing presspersons, he said that the SHRC was functioning more as a recommending body than otherwise and in most cases its recommendations were not being implemented in letter and spirit. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), at times, registered cases suo moto based on evidence, including press reports, to protect the human rights of the affected. The state conference of the forum would be held in the city on July 3 in support of these demands.
