Fitness freaks on the rise

BANGALORE: By working out in gyms and fitness centres, the young Bangalorean is striving to be in good shape. With many big apparel and cosmetic brands hitting town, one is tempted to fit into that perfect size. Scores of fitness centres have mushroomed in the city, each competing with the other to help one attain that picture perfect figure.

No wonder then that, treadmills, cross-trainers, exercycles, steppers, rowers and others are now familiar terms in almost every household. With people getting more fitness conscious by the day, the sales of fitness equipment is only bound to move skyward.

Individuals, young and old, male and female, have realised the advantages of having a healthy body. While looking good is the ultimate aim of most youngsters visiting the fitness centres, the elders are more health conscious. Be it a walk in the park or a jog, the fitness bug indeed has bitten the average Bangalorean.

Equipment in demand

There are those who prefer the comfortable environs of their homes to work out. Keeping pace with this growing trend, one of the largest stores for fitness equipment in the city was launched here recently by Landmark Associates. Launching the store was former badminton champion Prakash Padukone at the Oxford Store on Airport Road.

The store markets a range of home, corporate and commercial equipment including multi-gyms and a variety of massage chairs. "All customers are provided with a choice to suit their individual needs within a precise budget," says a store manager. With the fitness trend increasingly getting popular and competition mounting in the fitness sector, the players have to get smarter too.
