Boy drowned in canal

NEW DELHI: A 13-year-old boy is feared to have drowned in a canal at Prashant Vihar in North-West Delhi on Wednesday. The body has not been recovered yet.

The victim, Nanhe, lived with his grandfather at Sardar Colony in Rohini. A search has been launched for the body.

Two cases of suicide

NEW DELHI: Two persons allegedly committed suicide in different parts of the Capital on Wednesday.

In the first case, Janki (30) hanged herself in her Gulia Colony residence at Alipur in North-West Delhi. While no suicide note was found, the husband of the deceased, Dharmendra, claimed that she had been suffering from a chronic pain in the stomach. Apparently, the stomach ache was caused by a tumour that had not been cured even after a surgery.

In the second incident, Amit (30) allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling in his Mukherjee Nagar residence in North West Delhi.

According to the police, Amit was unemployed and was suffering from depression. Inquest proceedings are on.

Man faints and dies

NEW DELHI: An unidentified young man collapsed and later died near the Yoga Kendra in Model Town on Wednesday evening.

According to the police, the young man fainted in front of the Yoga Kendra around 6 p.m. He was rushed to Hindu Roa Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Two bookies arrested

NEW DELHI: Two persons allegedly involved in a betting racket have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

According to the police, a decoy was sent to a house at Mahindra Park in Jahangirpuri, North-West Delhi, on Tuesday to strike a deal with the suspects. After his bet was accepted, the waiting police team carried out a raid and arrested two persons, identified as Sunil Arora and Ashok Kumar Chawla, from the spot. A recording machine, television, mobile phones and Rs. 7,500 in cash were recovered from them.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that the bets were being placed on the cricket match between Australia and England in the ongoing Natwest trophy.

Patwari held

NEW DELHI: A village revenue officer (patwari) was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant for clearing the measurement of his land and mutation.

According to the police, the accused, Mukesh Sharma, was arrested on Tuesday while accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 10,000 in his office at Burari in Sant Nagar.
